The Little Chair
A story about a little chair finding itself while going on a journey (WIP)

How exciting, thesis. We can do anything we want.
Personally, I want to tell a story that holds a dear place to my heart. A story that belongs to me.
the
challenge
the
pre production

The first step for me is to plan out the story, figuring out what i want to say. The two images here are some of the very first scrambles of words and very rough sketches of what I put together in my head.

(Also coming up with other ideas as my character, such as a chair...)
After figuring out the general message and story beats, now it is time to come up with our main character!
And as for now, I have chosen a lady bug to be my subject. On the left are some sketches of some frame ideas and what our main character looks like.

the
experiment
Luckily in our thesis class, we are also having the opportunity to experiment with different styles and mediums for our thesis. Here are some of the explorations I did, using lady bug as my subject at first, then making the final decision to use a chair.

the
production

For the animation, I built my scenes roughly in C4D, modeled my little chair, gave him life then made him pretty in Adobe Photoshop.

Additional to Photoshop, I built many of the 3D blocks on the chair in C4D as well, and rendered out a Cryptomatte, then composited in After Effects. Most of the 3D scenes I used Nuke to enhance the lighting by adding in post effects

the
easter egg
My friend Josh Young comped his 3D model in one of my older versions for funzies, please enjoy, and thank you for stopping by!
